He walks away with Tour Championship and Fedex Cup

(Newser) – Tiger Woods bolstered his case yesterday as the best golfer ever—not once, but twice. Woods ran away from the field at the Tour Championship, winning for the second straight year, and setting tour records along the way. That victory also secured Woods the Fedex Cup, which will net him $10 million when he retires.

The more modest $1.26 million Woods earned with his Tour Championship victory makes his total earnings for this year $10.867 million, a career best. Woods has won four of his last five events. He has an impressive seven wins in the season, the fourth time in his career he has won at least that many times in a single season.

His birdie putt on the final hole won the day, causing him to give a fist pump and yell in triumph, the AP reports. "It feels great. Kind of hard for me to elaborate beyond that," Woods said afterward. "I know it's been awhile, but for some reason, it feels like it hasn't." Accepting an award for "best celebration" yesterday in Shanghai, Steve Williams was asked why he called Adam Scott's win at the Bridgestone Invitational the greatest victory of Williams' career. (NEWSER) - Some people are inspired by Tiger Woods. Others are inspired to throw frankfurters at him. In the case of Brandon Kelly, the 31-year-old who launched a hot dog in Tiger Woods' direction on Sunday, inspiration also came compliments of Hollywood. "I threw the hot dog toward Tiger Woods because I was inspired by the movie Drive," Kelly tells the Press Democrat . "As soon as the movie ended, I thought to myself, ‘I have to do something courageous and epic. I have to throw a hot dog on the green in front of Tiger.'" More»

Tiger Woods Falls Out of Golf's Top 50

It's the first time in 15 years Woods has not been in top 50

(NEWSER) - What a difference a few years and too much exercise between the sheets can make. For the first time in 15 years, Tiger Woods is no longer in golf's top 50, reports CNN . Woods had been tied for 50th with Louis Oosthuizen, but Oosthuizen tied for fifth in a tournament in Scotland, moving him up the rankings. Woods was last out of the top 50 on Oct. 13, 1996, but since then has won 14 major tournaments. His last tournament win was in November 2009 at the Australian Masters. More»
