Thomas Slams Triple Runs to Hit No. 512

Posted Sep 18, 07 3:16 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Toronto's Frank Thomas enjoyed the second triple-home-run game of his career yesterday, tying Ernie Banks and Eddie Matthews for the 18th spot on the all-time list. Two were against wily Boston knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, who also gave up three to Thomas 11 years ago. Thomas now has 40 dingers against Boston, tops among active players.

Blue Jays rookie Dustin McGowan gave up one run and five hits in a complete game, his second; the first was a one-hitter in June. Boston went down 6-1, continuing to stumble against division rivals, losing its third game of the past four. New York closed the gap to 3½ games with a win over Baltimore.
