Britney Spears' manager announced yesterday he'll no longer work with the pop star—just hours after the singer's lawyer in the K-Fed child custody battle also quit, People reports. A statement from the former management company cited "current circumstances" as the reason for the split, and offered no other details.

Britney's lackluster comeback performance at the MTV Video Music Awards and  subsequent cascade of criticism might have had something to do with it. But the singer's not sunk yet —her new single "Gimme More" looks to be a hit. Brit's former lawyer offered support, praising her replacement and adding: "I don't want anyone to perceive that we're dumping Britney." (More Britney Spears stories.)
