(Newser) – Having seen the health care system up close, Rush Limbaugh says it's fine. "It was confidence-inspiring," he said of the hospital stay that started Wednesday when he suffered chest pains while vacationing in Hawaii. "They found absolutely nothing wrong," the talk-radio lightning rod said at the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, which discharged him today. "No arterial disease, no coronary disease whatsoever."

Added Limbaugh, 58: "The pain was real, and they don't know what caused it." Asked whether he's taking painkillers, he said he isn't.

At DLY, Actually the medical system in Hawaii is not like anywhere else in the USA. It's almost universal care. Blue Cross/Blue Shield? No such thing when I was there, it was all HMSA and they covered something like 95% of the population at the time. I heard BC/BS had to do some deals to get HMSA into the BC/BS network since they couldn't get a toehold in HI, neither could Kaiser. The system treats everyone equal regardless of the doctor, clinic, hospital, or any other service provider. The other healthcare system is military such as Tripler Hospital which is for military and their families. The cost of living is very high in Hawaii yet despite this the cost of the health care system and the cost in premiums is one of the lowest in all the 50 states. This was true 17 years ago during the Clinton administration health care debate, as it was when I lived there 40 years ago and it's still the same today. Between the strong unions and the strong democratic party it was easy to ram this type of near mandatory health care system into law. And the results are one of the best health care systems in the world at an affordable price. Rush was lucky he was in Hawaii. Isn't it ironic that a conservative that rails against universal healthcare actually said "It was confidence-inspiring," of Hawaii's version of universal healthcare.
