(Newser) – Roman Polanski today asked a Los Angeles judge to sentence him in absentia for his 1977 conviction for statutory rape—a move suggested earlier by an appellate court after it dismissed the director’s request to have the charges dismissed. Polanski, 76, is under house arrest in Switzerland as a judge there decides whether to extradite him to the US.

No, don't sentence him in absentia. He wants to measure his penalties before making a choice. If he's given a sentence that he'd rather avoid, he won't submit to it. So, in effect he's saying, "Sentence me, and if I agree it easy enough, and I'd rather not pay in time, money, prestige or freedom, then I'll accept it.

Yeah, but the real story is always so much better than the one that they tell you. Look up who his judge was in California and how much more money was made with him out as opposed to in jail. He gave two qualudes to a twelve-year old and fucked her in the ass in Jack Nicholson's hot tub--the real reason that Angelica Huston left him, Jack, not Roman,-- and got BAIL--and split cause he wasn't an idiot. So, he's making everyone money just never goes to America,, and then the Swiss who we really screwed with USB arrest his ass. When did the Swiss do shit, but tax-dodge or launder our money? This isn't about him--it's about USB and money. If it were about him--he would have been in jail twenty years ago--here. But, when Obama said that he was gonna nail those fourteen thousand tax dodgers at USB--even though that was just an empty campaign thing for independents like me--Roman should have known the Swiss would be pissed. Actually, Roman's plight is one of those things that proves that I'm not a nut.
