Fastest-Growing Careers in US
Biomedical engineers, health aides will be in strong demand by 2018

(Newser) – Here are the careers projected by the Labor Department to have the fastest growth by 2018, as run down by the Boston Globe:

  1. Biomedical engineer: 16,000 in 2008; projected growth of 72%; median pay: $77,400.
  2. Network systems and data communication analyst: 292,000 in 2008; projected growth of 53.4%; median pay: $66,310.

  1. Home health aide: 922,000 in 2008; projected growth of 50%; median pay: $21,440.
  2. Personal and home care aide: (includes housekeeping and cleaning, less health care duties than No. 3) 817,000 in 2008; projected growth of 46%; median pay: $19,690.
  3. Financial analyst: 27,000 in 2008; projected growth of 41.2%; median pay: $73,150.
