Rush Limbaugh: Don't Donate to Haiti Victims

We already have—'It’s called the US income tax,' says shock-jock

(Newser) – Rush Limbaugh doesn’t see why you should donate to the Haiti earthquake relief effort. “We’ve already donated to Haiti!” he declared. “It’s called the US income tax!” He then goes on to point out that lots of churches and other groups are already trying to help. “There are people who do charitable work every day in Haiti. It’s not as though… it’s our fault.”

“There are people that have been trying to save Haiti, just as we’re trying to save Africa. You just can’t keep throwing money at it, because the dictatorships there just take it all,” he continues, apparently having drifted onto the topic of Haitian poverty. Besides, even if the people did get the money, that would just stop them from bothering to support themselves. “It’s a simple matter of self-reliance.” (Unsurprisingly, reactions are pouring in, from everyone from Jon Stewart to Roger Ebert, who wants to "horsewhip" Limbaugh.)

Very very late to the party, but Rush NEVER said don't donate money to Haiti victioms. He did say donate, but not through the whitehous.gov because he doesn't trust the money actually getting to Haiti from there. Instead, he said give it to the Red Cross. Sheesh.

He is the poorest excuse for a human being and newser keeps putting his ugly face and crass comments online-all news media etc all magazines etc should not print his face or give him any attention-treat him as if he were dead-we could only hope it happens soon

(NEWSER) - Bill Clinton and George W. Bush toured Port-au-Prince today, meeting survivors of the Jan. 12 earthquake at a huge homeless camp in the Haitian capital. The former presidents, who were making their first joint visit, spearheaded the American relief fundraising effort, which has drawn $37 million so far. (NEWSER) - The Baptist missionaries jailed on kidnapping charges in Haiti tried not once, but twice, to take kids out of the country, according to a Haitian police officer.
