(Newser) – Nancy Pelosi says she doesn’t have the votes to jam the Senate heath care bill through the House in a last-minute bid to pass reform before Scott Brown takes office. “There are certain things the members simply cannot support,” Pelosi said, following a closed-door meeting with House Democrats. She cited the tax on so-called “Cadillac” insurance plans, and the special perks for Nebraska as major grievances, reports the Washington Post.

"I don't think it's possible to pass the Senate bill in the House," Pelosi said. "I don't see the votes for it at this time."

Here is a good example of how tort reform HAS been effective.....NON-ECONOMIC DAMAGES - Damages for pain, suffering, loss of companionship, consortium (love of spouse). These are as opposed to economic losses, such as loss of wages, medical bills, and damage to property. Occasionally, laws limit the amount of "non-economic" damages which can be recovered for torts. Lone Star voters took notice and, in 2003, applied their good judgment to the problem. They approved a state constitutional amendment limiting noneconomic damages in medical liability cases to $250,000 for physicians. Five years later, the cap is being credited for slashing liability insurance premiums, boosting the ranks of doctors in the state, and improving medical access to patients.

Tort "reform" doesn't eliminate the entire field of tort law. ....usually I respect you, but that was pretty dumb.
