Mass. Residents Want a Truck Like Scott Brown's

Dealers report rise in inquiries regarding GMC Canyon

Scott Brown not only dismantled the common perception of Massachusetts as a blue state, but he may also have singlehandedly turned the populace on to the Truck. The Truck, if you missed it, is the senator-elect’s 2005 GMC Canyon pickup, featured prominently in campaign ads and now poised to do brisk business at dealerships. One reports callers asking if they “sell trucks like that.” An industry group detects a “major surge” in interest.

Massachusetts, where the most popular car is the Toyota Camry, has “traditionally been home to many sedan-loving Democrats,” the Boston Globe points out. Of more than 36,600 2005 Canyons in the US, just 609 of them are in the Bay State. But that could change. The dealership where Brown bought his ride is anticipating a “truck fad” and will prominently display a lookalike model for sale.
