British Actress Jean Simmons Dead at 80

Nominated for Oscar as a teen for Hamlet role opposite Olivier

Jean Simmons, the British actress who as a teen received the first of two Oscar nominations for her Ophelia to Laurence Olivier’s 1948 Hamlet, died today at age 80 of lung cancer. She also starred in Guys and Dolls and Spartacus before earning another Oscar nomination for her role as an alcoholic wife in The Happy Ending, the Los Angeles Times reports.
