(Newser) – Virginia police believe skeletal remains discovered by a farmer in a Charlottesville field are those of a Virginia Tech student who disappeared last October after attending a Metallica concert. Education major Morgan Harrington, 20, was the subject of repeated fruitless searches. "I looked down and saw what looked like a human skull, and my first thought was that it was Morgan Harrington," the farmer who discovered the bones told CNN.

Police are awaiting test results for final confirmation, but evidence found with the body have convinced them the bones are Harrington's. Her father called it "a horrible day." Morgan's mom, Gil Harrington, was still holding out hope just last weekend that her daughter would turn up alive. "Despite the length of time Morgan has been gone I remain hopeful," she wrote in her blog. "Part of me is waiting for God to bring Morgan home. The light always returns, it cannot help but return."

Aelius28 does make a valid point. Twice as many black women of that age group die annually. The statistics don't show Hispanic number, but they are probably similar. How many national news stories show these tragedies which occur 2 to 3 times as often? http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/conte.... The idea of human value based on color is deeply embedded in our culture. Thumbs up Aelius.

It is my comment to this article, I have as much of a right as anyone to comment on an article. I didn't disparage anyone here on Newser, and anyone offended by me can damn well stay offended.
