Make Annulments Tougher: Pope

Benedict thinks pessimism about lasting marriage is driving trend

(Newser) – Pope Benedict wants Catholic Church tribunals to make marriage annulments more difficult to get. “We run the risk of falling into an anthropological pessimism which, in the light of today's cultural situation, considers it almost impossible to marry,” he said today. Marriage is stronger than people think, he said, and tougher annulment standards would reflect that, reports the Catholic News Service.

Did the church get in the marriage business because it was so ordained in the Bible? I think not. Marriage is a civil event and annulements are only an evil overlaying an already troubling situation. Don't make it more so by threatening to "thighten up" on the regulations, should some foolish Catholics think they "need" the annulment! Religion does screw with your mind! It's all non-sense.
