James O’Keefe says he did not try to bug Mary Landrieu’s phone, and reports saying he did are false. In a lengthy statement on Andrew Breitbart’s Big Journalism blog railing against the media, the conservative activist acknowledges a "visit" to the senator's office and says, "On reflection, I could have used a different approach during this investigation, particularly given the sensitivities people understandably have about security in a federal building.”

O’Keefe says his intent was "to ask the staff if their phones were working" after Landrieu said she’d had difficulty answering constituents’ calls about the health care bill because her phone lines were jammed . “We video taped the entire visit, the government has those tapes, and I’m eager for them to be released because they refute the false claims being repeated by much of the mainstream media,” O’Keefe says.
