Apple CEO slams Adobe, Google at company town-hall

(Newser) – Steve Jobs had some harsh words for Adobe and Google at a town hall-style meeting following the iPad's launch last week, Apple workers say. "We did not enter the search business. They entered the phone business," Jobs said in reference to Google, a source tells Wired. "Make no mistake: they want to kill the iPhone. We won’t let them." He added that Google's "Don't Be Evil" mantra is "bullshit," while a second source said he actually called it "a load of crap."

The Apple chief also took a swipe at Adobe, says the source, whose Flash won't be supported on the iPad. "They are lazy," Jobs allegedly said. "They have all this potential to do interesting things, but they just refuse to do it. Apple does not support Flash because it is so buggy." He told the assembled Apple workers that nobody will be using Flash in the future and "the world is moving to HTML5."

(NEWSER) - Apple has done a U-turn and scrapped restrictions introduced earlier this year on what tools developers can use to build applications for the iPhone and iPad. Developers will now be allowed to use tools based on Adobe's Flash, and restrictions on other programming languages have been lifted, the Wall Street Journal reports. (NEWSER) - Google finally released its long-awaited stand-alone Gmail client for iPhones, iPads, and iPods today—only to immediately pull it down after a flood of complaints over bugs. “The iOS app we launched today contained a bug with notifications. Company again beats expectations

(AP) - Apple's results trumped expectations for yet another quarter, the results lifted by the sale of 20.3 million iPhones—millions more than analysts expected; iPad sales came in at 9.25 million units, also above expectations. In other product categories, trends were less impressive. Sales of Mac computers were 3.95 million, up 14% from a year ago. That's the lowest quarterly growth rate in two years. And iPod sales were down 20% at 7.5 million, as the media player continues to lose out to iPhone and iPads. More»
