Ring, Ring, Ring: Do Not Call List Expires Soon

(Newser) – If you're one of the millions who registered with the federal Do Not Call list in 2003, expect your phone to start ringing during dinner again soon, Time reports. That's because the FTC made the popular list good for only five years. After that, you have to re-up by visiting donotcallist.gov or calling 888-382-1222.

Nearly 150 million have registered for the list. The FTC set it up to purge numbers after five years to account for people switching numbers. Critics say it's a needless hassle. "They shouldn't have to keep a calendar to find out when they have to re-up to keep this nuisance from happening," said one lawmaker.
