Enquirer: John Edwards Punched Elizabeth
"Elizabeth was so tormented by John's cheating and lies that she lashed out physically at him many times, even slapping him," a source tells the Enquirer.    (AP Photo/Matt Sayles)

John Edwards hit his wife in a "horrific marriage-ending fight" over the Christmas holidays, according to the National Enquirer. "Elizabeth told me the argument became so heated with John striking her," a friend of Elizabeth's tells the tabloid. "He forcefully punched her in the ribs."

The fight was the final straw that pushed Elizabeth to end the pair's 32-year marriage, according to the source, who the Enquirer says passed a lie-detector test. "She has the divorce papers drawn up, but she can amend them to charge John with domestic violence," the source says. Another source noted that Elizabeth sometimes physically attacked her husband, slapping and shaking him when they fought over his affair with Rielle Hunter.
