Novelist Slaps Ex With $40 Million Suit

Terry McMillan cites extortion in post-divorce mud-slinging contest

(Newser) – Bestselling author Terry McMillan filed a $40 million lawsuit Wednesday against her ex-husband Jonathan Plummer, alleging that he conspired to destroy her reputation during their divorce. In the lawsuit McMillan alleges that her "little fag," a.k.a. "common extortionist" ex-husband has threatened her safety after the couple divorced in 2005.

McMillan's marriage to the much-younger Plummer—said to be the inspiration for How Stella Got Her Groove Back—ended after he admitted he was gay. The two have engaged in some serious mudslinging since the divorce: McMillan has badmouthed Plummer to highbrow friends like President Clinton, and Plummer has publicized McMillan's irate (and oft profane) phone messages.
