(Newser) – Federal safety regulators are looking into complaints of steering problems with the 2009 and 2010 Toyota Corolla. About 80 motorists in the US have complained that their cars veer on highways, reports the Daily News. If verified, the defect that could hit Toyota with a fourth recall in what has already been a devastating year for the automaker. The quality issues have caused rating agency Moody's to put Toyota on downgrade-watch.

"We are reviewing steering complaints with the Corolla to determine if a safety defect investigation is warranted," said a spokeswoman for the Department of Transportation.

that sounds nice, except that MANY of the American models Toyota sells are made in America, by American workers using parts made in America... to "Buy American" often means GM, Chrysler and Ford, which often makes their cars outside of the US and Canada...

The story 60 minutes fabricated about the Audi 5000 and "unintended acceleration" nearly killed off the marque in the American market. My first thoughts were similar to osu1067, something's up here.

Steering problems is not like a faulty cup holder...it is serious and this proves only one thing....any company can lose their way when they relax. their standards.
