(Newser) – British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, 40, is dead of an apparent suicide just weeks before the unveiling of his Fashion Week show in Paris. He is believed to have been found hanged in his London apartment, the Mail reports. His Twitter feed, which has since been removed, included a post a few days ago referring to his "F-----g awful week," the Wall Street Journal reports.

McQueen's mother died Feb. 2, and a close friend who helped start his career committed suicide 3 years ago. A rep from Gucci Group, which owns McQueen's fashion house, confirms the designer's death.

Nothing in life lasts forever. Not pain and misery and not bliss and happiness. Death lasts forever, as far as we know, though. As long as we are alive, if we just keep on for a while things will change, inside and outside. Soon it will be spring.

Suicide is an option. You have no idea what circumstances might go into the decision or the impulse to commit suicide. Like other life decisions, it is everyone's to make. Even yours. You just haven't come to the place where it came up for you. You are very fortunate. Many consider, some attempt, some succeed.

"Fashion Week"-devoting your life to a shallow profession. I saw something the other day talking about how, if you're not in the first three rows, you're on the outs. It all sounds like a bunch of silly high-schoolers. Perhaps he could have benefitted from getting involved with something of substance.
