(Newser) – A Saudi prince has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man believed to have been part of his entourage was found battered to death in a 5-star London hotel. Detectives were called in after staffers found the body at the Landmark Hotel, the Telegraph reports. The victim, a Saudi man in his 30s, had suffered severe head injuries.

The royal told police he was a cousin of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah. Investigators contacted Saudi diplomats and determined that the suspect was a middle-ranking royal. Detectives are now trying to determine whether the prince is entitled to diplomatic immunity.

The Landmark Hotel can confirm the death of a guest on Monday who was staying at the hotel, a spokesman said. This is an isolated incident and our thoughts are with the relatives of the deceased.

"arrested on suspicion" is different than guilt.
