Outfielder Tears ACL in Tussle With Manager

Posted Sep 25, 07 3:26 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Volatile outfielder Milton Bradley provided a second-half spark to surging San Diego but now is out for the season because of a tussle with his manager and a torn ACL. He suffered the injury as manager Bud Black wrestled him to the ground to prevent an altercation with an umpire, reports ESPN. The team claims the umpire directed a series of profanities at Bradley.

The blow is serious to the Padres, now just half a game ahead in the wild-card race. Bradley led the team in batting average at .313 since arriving from Oakland in July. "If this costs me my season, [the umpire] needs to be reprimanded. I'm taking some action," said Bradley.
