(Newser) – In the hagiography of Nicolas Sarkozy, no story looms larger than the then-mayor's 1993 negotiation with a psychotic who took children hostage at a daycare center. Now, writes the Times of London, French state television is releasing Human Bomb, a docu-fiction of the 46-hour standoff between Sarkozy and the hostage taker.

The film mixes documentary footage with reenactments by a young actor as Sarkozy. A senator has said that the performance is more real than real life, but the French daily Libération laments that the country is suffering from a "Sark-overdose" after too much media exposure. The film screens tonight on France 2.
