Zach Parise scored twice in the third period, and the US men's hockey team reached the Olympic semifinals with a tense 2-0 victory over Switzerland today. The Americans (4-0) got everything and more from the upstart Swiss, who hoped to advance despite being the lowest-ranked team in the tournament. USA will play again Friday against either the Czech Republic or Finland. A spot in the gold medal game will be on the line.

Swiss goalie Jonas Hiller kept it a contest by making 42 saves, while Switzerland recorded 19 shots on Ryan Miller. Parise broke a 0-0 tie with a goal early in the third, then sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final seconds.
