The least popular man in Chicago is out of a job, reports the Chicago Tribune, citing a Bears source. Erratic, interception-prone quarterback Rex Grossman, often cited by fans and media as the biggest liability on the reigning NFC champions, will be benched. Coach Lovie Smith is expected to announce tomorrow that Brian Griese will replace him.

Griese, a 10-year veteran and Pro Bowler, is expected to manage a no-frills, low-octane offense on a team that wins on defense and special teams. "I have confidence in our entire football team. Brian is a part of that," a coy Smith said yesterday. (More NFL stories.)
