Weight Watchers Approves Some McDonald's Items

Filet-O-Fish, McNuggets assigned points for NZ dieters

(Newser) – One of the more unlikely pairings in food could soon be coming to a McDonald’s near you, as Weight Watchers has agreed to lend its stamp of approval to several items on the menus of the chain’s New Zealand locations. The Filet-O-Fish, Chicken McNuggets and Sweet Chili Seared Chicken Wrap will be assigned 6.5 points each under the Weight Watchers system, which allows dieters between 18 and 40 points per day.

“Part of our philosophy that you can enjoy life ... while still achieving your weight-loss goals,” a Weight Watchers rep tells the AP. But critics say it’s a naked money grab: “It implies this food is healthy ... when often it is high in fat and salt. Chicken McNuggets are Chicken McNuggets whether it’s got Weight Watchers on it or not.” A McDonald’s exec didn’t say if the partnership would be extended to outlets in other countries.

Chicken McNuggets will be assigned 6.5 points under Weight Watchers guidlines — a big number for dieters allowed only 18 per day.

Weight Watchers is a corporation that markets and sells a formulated approach to weight loss not long term health and wellness. There is a huge difference.

Makes perfectly good sense to me....Who stands to benefit greatly from a bunch of chubbies oinking down McNuggets?? weightwatchers perhaps? My bet is KrispyKreme and Blue Bell are next in line for coveted recommendations !!
