Jon Stewart went apoplectic last night after playing a clip from Sarah Palin’s interview with Jay Leno, in which she criticized the media for having too much “opinion under the guise of hard news stories.” Then, just to twist the dagger, she added, “That’s why I joined Fox.” Stewart, beside himself, launched into a five-minute assault on new Fox midday host Megyn Kelly.

Stewart played a stream of clips showing that Kelly’s show, which is supposedly in the “news” portion of Fox’s lineup, sounds identical to its opinion programs. But Stewart did have something nice to say about Palin, admitting that her turn as a standup comic on the Tonight Show wasn’t half bad. “I don’t often say this to a lot of comics… but if you had a day job, you should quit it.” (More Jon Stewart stories.)
