England’s possible future queen got her hands dirty—really dirty—after her dog ate the pearl earrings Prince William gave her for her 28th birthday. Kate Middleton was dismayed when she realized her cocker spaniel puppy, Otto, was to blame for the missing antiques, but Wills just “burst out laughing and told her that she would have to wait for them to come out the other end,” a source tells the Daily Mail.

From then on, Middleton “was out with Otto waiting for the inevitable” until the earrings, as the source puts it, “emerged.” Unfortunately, “there was no rescuing them, they were so badly damaged and chewed up.” Not to mention covered in…well, you know. But William saved the day: “He told her not to worry and that he would get her another pair. He said the main thing was that Otto was OK.”
