Cubs Swept by Marlins, Magic Number at 2

Posted Sep 28, 07 5:02 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The Cubs continued to play their worst baseball at the worst possible time last night, stranding 10 in a 6-4 loss to the Marlins. The Brewers, however, helped out by losing 9-5 to the Padres, which holds the Cubs division lead at two with three games left to play.

Florida has now won 10 in a row against the Cubs dating back to 2006.  Despite the embarrassing sweep, the Cubs remain optimistic heading into a three-game series with the Cardinals with the magic number at 2.  "The bottom line is we're confident in here," said Ryan Dempster.  "If we get a little help that's great, but we do control our own destiny."
