(Newser) – A man who died in a shootout with cops after robbing a bank dressed as a leprechaun Wednesday had robbed another bank dressed as Santa just before Christmas, investigators say. Police returned fire when David Christopher Cotton and getaway driver Jonathan Skinner shot at them after fleeing the Nashville-area bank, the Tennessean reports.

The pair abandoned their car after a chase through city streets and attempted to flee on foot. "They were confronted by officers. They failed to drop their weapons and gunshots were exchanged," said a police spokesman. Investigators are trying to determine whether the duo, both 20 years old, had been involved in any other robberies.
