US Cruising to Presidents Cup Victory

Americans have huge lead, but singles play may provide sparks

(Newser) – The Americans' trouncing of the International team in yesterday's Presidents Cup matches brings the standings to14½-7½, which leaves little chance for Gary Player's Internationals to rally. But ESPN forecasts some potential drama in today's 12 singles matches with Phil Mickelson teeing off against Fiji's Vijay Singh, and Canadian Mike Weir facing Tiger Woods.

Player admits "the egg is not sunny-side up" for the International team—they would need to take 10 of the 12 matches to win the cup. But he and US captain Jack Nicklaus are giving the crowd in Montreal what it wants in a Weir-Woods matchup. Weir, the 2003 Masters winner, has a 2-1-1 record in this tournament.
