Bond's Moneypenny Dies at 80

(Newser) – Lois Maxwell—better known as Miss Moneypenny, to James Bond devotees—has died at age 80 of cancer in an Australian hospital. She starred alongside Sir Sean Connery and Sir Roger Moore, and clocked a longer Bond career than either of the legendary 007's, the BBC reports. In 14 Bond films, the Canadian actress played the role of secretary to the spy's boss.

Maxwell wasn't invited to continue the role in the Timothy Dalton movies. "It was a great disappointment to her," said Sir Roger. But the Bond films weren't her only gig: she nabbed a Golden Globe for her role in a Shirley Temple film, appeared in Kubrick's Lolita, became a columnist for the Toronto Sun, and even worked on a thriller with Jeremy Irons in 2001.
