(Newser) – An Arkansas teen has filed harassment charges against his mother, alleging that she hacked into his Facebook account, changed his password, and posted slanderous things on his wall. The 16-year-old, who lives with his grandmother, has also requested a no-contact order. The mom, Denise New of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, is outraged. “You’re within your legal rights to monitor your child,” she told KATV 7, “It’s crazy to me that we’re even having this interview.”

The prosecutor wouldn’t comment, other than to cite Arkansas’ harassment law, which forbids a person to “repeatedly commit acts that alarm or seriously annoy another person” without good cause. New, of course, thinks she has good cause—she read on her son’s page that he’d been driving 95mph because he was upset with a girl. She says she’ll fight the lawsuit. “Oh yeah…I’m not gonna let this rest. This could be a precedent-setting moment for parents.” (By the way, Newser promises to never harass you on Facebook if you friend us.)

I'm in support of the kid. His mom wasn't monitoring his activity...she hacked into his account and wrote a bunch of slanderous things on page, like something a thirteen year old might do if they get mad at someone. She doesn't have custody, doesn't even live in the same state so I don't see why she's using the "I was just keeping an eye on my son" line. I might buy this if she just logged on and read his mail, but she wrote stuff on his page and changed his password. I'm sure there's a reason she doesn't have custody, so let's not judge the kid without all the facts or make nasty comments saying that he deserves to get his ass beat.

I am kind of on the kid’s side here. Mostly because I find it hilarious that he is suing his mother. Not all mothers are moms. Some are hags who don't know how to be a parent. If you want to help / reach your son try talking to him first.
