Don't Break Your Bank Account, Too

Posted Oct 7, 07 2:33 PM CDT in Arts & Living

(Newser) – Don't let emotional pain cloud your judgment on financial matters—you may both end up the poorer for it. Here are five divorce pitfalls to avoid, from USA Today:

  1. Clinging to the house if you can't afford the upkeep.
  2. Not making a clean break on joint accounts.

  1. Depending on your ex to pay the mortgage if it's in both your names.
  2. Forgetting to revise your will as soon as the divorce goes through.
  3. Overlooking tax considerations when deciding on alimony vs. child support payments and splitting up retirement and bank accounts.
