Constance McMillen couldn't go the ball at home in Fulton, Mississippi, so she'll have to make do with partying in New York City and San Francisco instead. The teen—whose fight to bring a same-sex date to her high school prom led first to her prom being canceled, and then being sent to a decoy prom—has been invited to head this year's Pride parade in the Big Apple, reports the New York Daily News.
"I never dreamed so many people would support my fight to take my girlfriend to the prom, much less that I’d end up being asked to be a grand marshal at NYC Pride,” McMillen said. “I’m really honored and touched to be asked to be part of this celebration.” McMillen, 18, and her date will also be attending an event in San Francisco known as the "lesbian prom," courtesy of the National Center for Lesbian Right.
