Steroids Probe Finds Link to Schoeneweis

Posted Oct 2, 07 7:03 AM CDT in US Sports

(Newser) – A source involved in the investigation of Signature Pharmacy told EPSN yesterday that Mets relief pitcher Scott Schoeneweis received six shipments of steroids in 2003 and 2004. Signature is suspected of having distributed steroids and other drugs through online orders from doctors. The doctor who wrote Schoeneweis' prescriptions has been suspended for writing thousands more, including some for Toronto's Troy Glaus.

The 33-year-old Schoeneweis beat testicular cancer while still in college, and underwent elbow surgery in 2004. Since the Mets signed him last year, the lefty racked up a 5.03 ERA in 70 games. According to the source, he spent over $1000 on testosterone and stanozolol. Over 20 people have been indicted so far in the Signature probe.
