(User Submitted) – Two state representatives called on Gov. Pat Quinn Sunday to deploy the Illinois National Guard to safeguard Chicago's streets. So far this year, 113 people have been killed across Chicago, the same number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan combined in the same period, "One half of this city views this as a part of daily life," Fritchey said. "Another part of the city doesn't care because it doesn't affect them." Yet the lawmakers said they are coming together because gun violence should be a priority to all Chicagoans. This isn't about public relations or politics. This is about reclaiming our communities." Read the full article.

LIved in Chicago 10 years and can say its one of the safest cities I have ever lived in. Considering the millions upon millions of people that live there, those numbers are not that bad. AND i would bet almost all of them are in the ummmm sections of town you risk your life driving through.

I did feel safer downtown Chicago than I did in my own home. Its a great city, as long as you know where NOT to go.
