KEY WEST, Fla. – US Coast Guard SAR coordinators in Key West received a call around 10 p.m. 5/8/10 of a 24’ vessel aground with 4 passengers aboard, 1 with a severe head injury, in Bahia Honda State Park, FL. The injured passenger, a 65-year-old male, suffered a severe head laceration when the vessel ran aground. USCG immediately launched a small-boat crew and EMS technician from Station Marathon, Fla., and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Miami. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation and TowBoat-US also responded by launching small-boat crews to assist. Responding units stabilized the patient using a C-Collar and backboard. TowBoat-US then took the patient to local EMS at Bahia Honda State Park. EMS then sent the patient to Miami via Life Flight for further care. Read the full article.
