A flight making the short trip from Belfast to London had to turn around and make an emergency landing back in Belfast today, after pilots noticed an “acrid smell” in the cabin that may have been caused by the renewed ash cloud from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. Ryanair wouldn't say if it was one of the two planes grounded this weekend because ash was found in their engines.

The emergency landing was just the latest misfortune visited upon travelers by the volcano, which resumed spewing ash over the weekend. Thousands of flights are being delayed and canceled today, and transatlantic flights are arriving and departing hours late, as they wind long detours around the cloud, the Guardian reports.
