USCG says missing Maine kayakers located, pronounced dead

(User Submitted) – Two kayakers who were reported missing near Portland, Maine, on Sunday evening were found unresponsive in their lifejackets about three miles southeast of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, at about 9 a.m., today and were later pronounced dead at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Deceased are Irina McEntee, 18, and Carissa Ireland, 20. "Our thoughts remain with the women’s families and friends during this extremely difficult time," said Capt. James McPherson, Commander of Coast Guard Sector Northern New England. McEntee and Ireland were reported missing at 5:20 p.m., Sunday when they hadn’t returned from their trip from Peaks Island, Maine, to Ram Island, Maine Mariners are reminded that despite recent warm air temperatures, the water is still dangerously cold.
