IOC Will Move Quickly to Strip Jones of Medals

(Newser) – The International Olympic Committee announced today that it is ready to make a speedy move to strip Marion Jones of the three gold and two bronze medals she took home from the 2000 Sydney Games. Now that Jones has pled guilty, IOC vice-president Thomas Bach intends to "accelerate and speed up the procedures," the AP reports.

There's something of a catch, which is that Jones' gold medal for the 100-meter dash will go to silver medalist Katerina Thanou, currently at the center of a doping scandal herself. Thanou failed to show up for a drug test the night before the race, and was later suspended for 2 years. But without concrete proof of doping, she may still get Jones' gold.
