(Newser) – Just 4 years old and already a trendsetter, Suri Cruise literally stands out—when she wears high heels. The daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes was on the cutting edge of the polarizing footwear trend, which some find cute and other consider dangerous. "Some people see it as part of the sexualization of young girls," says an editor at Parents magazine, but one shoe exec tells the New York Post: "Little girls simply want to look like big girls."

Alex Rodriguez's 5-year-old daughter recently stepped out in sandals with 2-inch heels, irking at least one mom. "They’re cute for playtime, and that’s where it ends," she says. "Wearing heels, like makeup, is like a rite of passage—it’s not meant to happen when you’re 3."

Let a child be a child. The adults are pushing these trends. Children are being robbed of their childhood. They are doing it all now. What is there to look forward to? There is plenty of time for high heels when they are older.
