McCline to Fight for Title Despite Steroid Link

(Newser) – Jameel McCline will get into the ring tonight to challenge Samuel Peter for the WBC heavyweight championship, despite reports in the NY Daily News that the fighter received $12,000 worth of steroids and HGH between 2005 and 2006.  McCline is the first boxer to be connected to the Signature Pharmacy investigation.

"He's never tested positive in New York," said Ron Stevens, chairman of the NY State Athletic Commission, which authorized the fight, adding that the commission tested for all manner of PEDs and illegal drugs after matches. Other big names in sports who have previously been linked to Signature Pharmacy include the Blue Jays' Troy Glaus and Patriots safety Rodney Harrison.
