Winter Starts Now For Cubs

Posted Oct 7, 07 4:31 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The Arizona Diamondbacks ensured another year without a Cubs championship title last night, shutting down Chicago 5-1 for a sweep of the National League Division Series. The Cubs are "disappointed" to end their 99th season without a World Series win, but manager Lou Pinella promised that "this is just the start," reports the Chicago Tribune.

Arizona's Livan Hernandez repeatedly pitched himself in and out of trouble, but the Cubs' bats couldn't take advantage, grounding into four double plays and leaving nine runners in scoring position. The Diamondbacks will set out on the best-of-seven National League Championship Series on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies, who swept the Phillies this week.
