Cops: Model was ringleader of drug trafficking gang

(Newser) – Colombia's one-time Coffee Queen became queen bee of a gang that recruited models to smuggle cocaine from South America to Europe, police say. Angie Sanclemente Valencia was busted in Argentina yesterday after being on the run for 5 months, the BBC reports. Valencia, 30, was stripped of her title in 2000 after authorities discovered that she was married.

How about taking care of the demand that is coming from the US. The drug war has been a huge failure because they are destroying these countries instead of taking care of the root of the problem, the drug users. Read up on Plan Colombia and then you will know that the US is really the problem, not the solution.

(NEWSER) - The New York Times last month revealed that undercover US agents have laundered and smuggled millions of dollars for Mexico's drug cartels—and today the paper shines a light on one such operation, in which federal agents helped one drug trafficker and his Colombian supplier move cash and cocaine across international borders. Over a period of months in 2007, US and Mexican agents worked with that supplier—Harold Mauricio Poveda-Ortega, aka "The Rabbit"—who fed cocaine to cartel leader Arturo Beltran Levya, the New York Times reports. Chocolate-Lover Busted for Cocaine-Filled Truffles

Turns out the guy had more than a sweet tooth

(NEWSER) - Guess it looked like a sweet deal to Robert Lopera. That is, before customs officials stopped the American at JFK Airport and took a close look at the heavy bags of chocolate truffles and pistachios he was toting on his return from Colombia. Turns out the truffles were cocaine balls covered with chocolate, and even the pistachio shells were filled with the stuff. In all, they seized 15 pounds or $500,000 worth of drugs, NBC reports.
