Yankees, Torre Still in the Game

Posted Oct 8, 07 2:19 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Trailing 0-2 in the ALDS and behind 3-1 in the fourth inning of last night's game, the Yankees finally rallied for an 8-4 win against Cleveland, reports the New York Daily News. The victory keeps the Yanks in the playoffs and Joe Torre at their helm; owner George Steinbrenner decreed yesterday that Torre's out of a job if the Yankees lose this series.

Johny Damon sparked the fifth-inning rally with a three-run homer to bail out Roger Clemens, who gave up three runs in 2 1/3 innings. Phil Hughes picked up the win with 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, and the one-two punch of Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera allowed Cleveland just one more run to finish off the night.
