The next adventure of Britain's most famous spy will be put to the page by an American best known for his psychological thrillers and graphic violence. The estate of late author Ian Fleming has chosen Jeffery Deaver, creator of the popular quadriplegic detective Lincoln Rhyme, to continue the James Bond series, the Independent reports. Deaver says his first Bond novel, Project X, will be published next May.

The writer, whose Bone Collector novel was made into a hit film starring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie, says Ian Fleming's Bond books helped shape his novels, which usually feature "strong (though possibly flawed) heroes, sick and twisted bad guys, deadlines every few chapters, a short time frame for the entire story (eight to 48 hours or so), lots of surprising plot twists and turns and plenty of cliffhangers."
