Warlord Moves to Block Campbell Testimony

Supermodels aren't often called as witnesses at war crimes tribunals, and Liberian strongman Charles Taylor's lawyers want to keep it that way. They're seeking to block Naomi Campbell from being subpoenaed to appear at Taylor's trial to testify about a "blood diamond" she allegedly received from the warlord at a dinner in South Africa in 1997, ABC News reports.

Taylor is accused of supplying rebels in Sierra Leone's civil war with weapons in return for diamonds, and prosecutors say the alleged exchange with the supermodel will help prove their case. Campbell denies ever being given a diamond, although her agent, and potential witnesses Carole White and Mia Farrow, tell a different story. Taylor's lawyers have denounced the attempt to force Campbell to testify as a publicity stunt.
