What Not to Wear to the Office

Temperatures are rising and necklines are plunging—but showing too much cleavage can turn you into the office boob. Don't let your summertime sartorial choices tarnish your workplace reputation, writes Anna Post, a rep for the Emily Post Institute, for Reuters. Her fashion tips:

  • Mix high and low: Pair one element of summer (sandals, capris) with a standard classic (blazer, wrap dress)
  • Go bare legged, but watch the hem: Unless your office specifically requires them, it's OK to ditch the pantyhose, but keep skirts to knee-length

  • Don't bare all: Of your arms, that is. Tank sleeves and spaghetti straps may cross the line; strapless sundresses are a definite no.
  • Skip the shorts: Period.
  • Don't be dumb: Leave see-through fabrics, mini-skirts, Spandex, and midriff-revealing tops at home.
  • Sandals are so-so, flip flops are a no-go: Only wear the former if your feet look—and smell—OK.
  • Don't play the rock star: Take your sunglasses off indoors.
