Obama, Edwards Bail on Michigan Primary

A crack at revising the primary schedule appears at risk today after Barack Obama and John Edwards removed their names from Michigan's ballot, the Detroit Free Press reports. Joe Biden and Bill Richardson have also withdrawn, marking the latest attempt to punish Michigan for moving its primary to January 15, ahead of Iowa and New Hampshire.

Critics say the traditional kick-off states exert too much power and don't reflect America's voting mix. Michigan Dems haven't said if the state will revert to its original plan, a Feb. 9 caucus. The withdrawals leave Hillary Clinton the lone top-tier candidate in the January contest; "We don't think it's necessary to remove ourselves from the ballot," a spokesman told the AP.
