Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle has won the Republican nomination for US Senate in Nevada, setting up an epic showdown with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Angle, a former state assemblywoman, took the nomination after a tough primary in which opponents painted the outsider as too extreme to appeal to independent voters, AP reports.

Reid's campaign representatives said earlier this week that they were preparing for an "aggressive campaign" against any Republican challenger. Angle is expected to receive a flood of Republican campaign cash now that she is the pick to take on Reid. "She'll build a broad coalition of support," one of Angle's campaign consultants told the Wall Street Journal. "I know that's not the conventional wisdom, but she'll do that, and she'll start doing it tonight." (More Sharron Angle stories.)
